Information Session: Yes - Had to leave a bit early bc of interview but was very helpful for what we saw

Appearance of Campus:

It's urban, its New York--so don't expect Mount Holyoke. That said it was well laid out and pretty.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

Seemed to be well maintained-- great new student center-- modern design seemed a bit out of place but can't beat the indoor spaciousness. Very welcoming

Seemed functional and clean-- but its NYC. However, no leaded windows and fireplaces if that is what you want...

Overall Campus Impression:
It is an oasis just across the street (literally) from Columbia--where a lot of things for the students take place (from reserach library, some classes, the gym, and dorms (in which upperclasswomen ca

Campus Visit Notes for Barnard College

Visit Description:

My D was having her interview so she was dressed for it. Her tour guide, the woman at the information session and the Dean who interviewed her said that they loved her "color blocking" she made she have a huge smile. She said to me later--I am so at home here-- and btw my shoe budget is going to be huge-- to which I said that was fine and that she should get a nice job to pay for them.

She is a possible recruited athlete and it is clear that Barnard is interested in having athletes in their student body which is rare these days as most Ivies and NESCAC schools are cutting back on athletes. She certainly felt as if being a jock would NOT make her an outcast at all-- that eah woman had their own passion and that is what Barnard wanted.

She came away gushing.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

did not stay over in hotel-- we were with friends.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

So many options. Went to "tom's" where Seinfield was filmed. good diner fare...lots of trucks for that sort of fast food too...

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Parking--in Manhattan--as they say fugetaboutit-- cabs were easy to get even during rush hour. A train stops right in front of campus and seems to be their method of transport if they have no luggage
