Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - The information session followed the tour and was pretty short. The admissions officer briefly discussed info regarding the admissions process - basically what could be found on the website.

Campus Tour: Yes - Very helpful - my tour guide was a sophomore at Barnard and showed us around the dorms (an actual dorm room too), the library, and some classrooms. We did not see a class in session though.

Classroom Visit: No - We went inside an empty classroom, where the tour guide talked about classes in both Barnard and in Columbia.

Campus:

The students there were extremely polite and enthusiastic about Barnard. A few of the students who passed by even exclaimed, "Come to Barnard!"

The admissions officer was polite and informative.

Appearance of Campus:
2 - Fair

Barnard has a small campus and its buildings aren't very modern, which was a bit of a turn-down. Also, a student resources building, I believe, is currently being built.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

Though the buildings are pretty old looking, they are very clean.

Dormitories:

The dorm room we visited was pretty spacious, considering this is New York City. Each dorm hall feels like a tight-knit community. However, there are no bathrooms in each dorm.

Security/Safety:

I felt extremely safe at Barnard; there were security guards almost everywhere.

Overall Campus Impression:
3 - Good

Personally, I was turned down by its small size and old appearance. The students there were great though.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good

Right outside of Barnard is Columbia, which could be both a good and a bad thing. The good is that there are always new people to meet. The bad - some Columbia students could make you feel inferior.

City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent

It's New York City -- of course there's always something to do and places to see!

Campus Visit Notes for Barnard College

Visit Description:

If intimacy and a small campus is your thing, then Barnard may be perfect for you. However, this, as I realized after the tour, is not my style, so naturally my visit turned me away from Barnard. There's also construction, which makes the campus seem even smaller. Yet, the students there are so friendly and they seem happy at Barnard.
