Bowdoin College Visit Report by bclintonk
Information Session: Yes - Very laid back info session, not the usual fast-taking, statistics-laden hard sell. An offbeat approach but it effectively projects the school as hip, laid-back, quality but not hypercompetitive.
Campus Tour: Yes - The usual bricks-and-mortar basics with a few personal anecdotes thrown in. Nice facilities, pleasant setting, charming tour guide. It helped that we were there on a gorgeous day.
Campus Visit Notes for Bowdoin College
Bowdoin emphasizes quality academics in a collaborative, non-competitive setting. All first-rate, and who can argue when Longfellow and Nathanael Hawthorne were classmates in 1825, and Harriet Beecher Stowe penned portions of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" here while hubby was teaching at Bowdoin? A long and distinguished academic tradition, updated to a 21st century LAC. And it's not as far off the beaten path as you may think.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at the Parkwood Inn, about a 10-minute drive from campus. Clean, comfortable 3-star motor inn, breakfast included, would recommend.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Don't miss Cook's Lobster House on Bailey's Island; Bowdoin admissions can give you pre-printed directions. Fresh Maine lobster in gorgeous coastal setting. Vegan D loved Bombay Masa
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Don't miss the coast: rocky inlets, piner-studded shores. To die for.
