Campus Visit Notes for Carleton College

Visit Description:

I spent the morning at St.Olaf and then the afternoon at Carleton. Carleton did not impress me. The staff did not seem to make a substantial effort to make us feel welcome and the admissions office where we met was very cramped. Our tour guide was nice but he did not take the time to ask us about ourselves or greet us personally. The tour was quite rushed and we saw the insides of only a few buildings. Those that we did see were old and dark. Our tour guide talked quite a bit and by the end of the tour we knew a lot about him, his interests, his family ect. All this talk about him made him appear quite self-centered. Also, one of the people on our tour was an alum and the two of them chatted, leaving out the rest of the group. After the tour we went to a information session where the gentleman giving the presentation told us we were a boring group because most of us were from Minnesota. He than proceeded to give us a very longwinded and boring lecture in which he quizzed us on things such as what a liberal arts college is. When a group got up to leave he became very offended and when they told him that they had to get to a tour he said that he had not been told anything about that. Overall I found a depressing campus filled with academically intense and self centered students and admissions officers who did not seem to want me in any way.
