Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - Interview was very relaxed. It was basically just a chance to ask questions and get some extra information. The interviewer was very helpful.

Information Session: Yes - The session was not very impressive. The guy really liked to talk about himself and get off track. Although these sessions are not typically very helpful. At least it was somewhat amusing.

Campus Tour: Yes - Campus tour was pretty good. 2 students walked around filming us for a class. I thought that was pretty interesting. We basically just went around to all the buildings and went in a dorm room.

Classroom Visit: Yes - I visited 4 classes, which is not typical. I had to hassle them a bit to do it, but they were happy to let me visit them. People were welcoming, and the classes were impressive. Students are engaged.

Students were very welcoming and nice. People just seemed to just get along and have a lot of fun. Their didn't seem to be much social pressure. Students were eager to talk to me.

I talked to a few professors from the classes I visited. They were happy to tell me about their departments and ask me what I was interested in, etc. Admissions staff were nice and helpful.

It is a nice looking campus surrounded by a nice neighborhood and great little town. It was quite beautiful in May.

The buildings looked really great. The classrooms I was in looked renovated and the looked pretty good. The science facilities looked good.

Dormitories:

Kind of small, I think they are having a housing crunch, but are about to build a new dorm. The dorm looked pretty good though. They have a pretty randomized rooming policy, so everyone is mixed.

Security/Safety:

I didn't see any problems with safety. The campus seemed very calm and I can't imagine any dangers. Northfield was also a very safe looking place.

Overall Campus Impression:

I thought it was an amazing place. The people are nice, the academics were very impressive and the students very engaged. It is a pretty place too. Their facilities were not bad either.

There is a pretty nice looking neighborhood surrounding the campus on one side (where a lot of students live off-campus). On the other side, is the large arboretum which was very beautiful. It'

Northfield is a very cute little town with a few stores and restaurants, but it isn't too exciting. I wouldn't rely on having a good time around town. Maybe the students find fun things to

Campus Visit Notes for Carleton College

Visit Description:

I think I probably have said it all. Well, maybe one thing. You should definitely pick up a copy of "the Carl". It is an arts and culture supplement in the weekly Carletonian student newspaper. It is possibly the funniest thing I have ever read. This confirms the quirkiness, and amount of intelligent humorous people there are at Carleton.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed at a Super 8 less than 10 minutes away from the campus. It was pretty cheap, allowed pets, and was clean and quiet. Definitely sufficient.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

There were a couple really good Pizza places right downtown, and a very good Indian restaurant. We also found this bar and grill type place that was really good.
