Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - All the interviewers are the senior students at the school. Friendly students, not intimidating scary adcoms. Therefore, I really don't think the interview has any weight in admission.

Information Session: Yes - They showed the Carleton admission video which I had seen over 20 times at home already.

Campus Tour: Yes - DISAPPOINTING. Bald and flat. The only pretty building is the Chapel, and even its interior is ugly. Theatre struck me by its tiny size. Bald spot is ugly. Calm and relaxed. So many bicycles.

Classroom Visit: Yes - My professor was incredibly kind to me. All students seemed very intellectual and articulate. Some of them were sorta weird though... 4 students started fighting in Chinese during the English class.

Campus Visit Notes for Carleton College

Visit Description:

I met incredibly nice students who took me under their wing for the night and told me everything they knew about the art of choosing the best LAC in America. It seems like all students are obsessed with hosting prospective students.
What really struck me was that all different types of students were friends with each other at Carleton. Maybe it was because they were only freshmen, but I got the impression that this is the community where the stellar hot football player is best friends with the shy, awkward math wizard down the hall.
What disappointed me the most was that, compared to its rival East Coast LAC's I also visited, Carleton seems to seriously lack in its facilities and buildings. Carleton's unique character of humble, down-to-earth-ness shows in its overall appearance of campus!! There is absolutely nothing gorgeous or fancy about it. The campus is bare and flat. True that I visited in October, but the famous bald spot just seemed like an eyesore. Buildings are simply designed, DULL, AND SMALL. Unlike its academics, its buildings and facilities don't compete with other first tier LACs. But I guess it doesn't matter, because everything will be covered up in snow most of the time.
Back to the student body, like I said above, they were incredibly friendly. They all wanted to say hi to me, talk to me, and advise me on my college plans. They truly seemed to love Carleton and each other.
The stereotype that Carleton students are all UGLY and weird seems dead-true. My hosts whom I love dearly may be mad that I said this, but I visited over 8 LAC's and 10 universities over this summer, and I'm being 100% honest for all the fairness in this world. If I went here, I would never date a Carleton boy. Most students were dressed plainly, scrubbily, or just WEIRDLY. and I think students just don't care about what they look like which can be a good thing in certain aspects. However, I had serious difficulties spotting good-looking girls and boys in the dining halls.
Oh, and the floor I stayed with gossiped a lot with each other. However, I think gossips, fast spread of rumors, etc. are sort of inevitable when it comes to small communities.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

there is that really good indian restaurant..........
