Visit Activities:

Campus Tour: Yes - Weaved through buildings and one dorm. Pretty standard tour, but a lot of helpful and sometimes random information was thrown in during walks between buildings - such as ratio of Macs to PCs (7:3).

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
A lot of students acknowledged the tour group with funny comments like "Look, a happy Colby student!" and they were very welcoming

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good

Very courteous and polite. Some of the helpers/volunteers went out of their way to introduce themselves.

Appearance of Campus:

AMAZING campus. Gorgeous. It's pretty large, so there's lots of walking, but there are beautiful quads and views of Maine.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good

Very clean. Seems like Colby is constantly under renovation (which is a good and bad thing) to keep its buildings modern and suitable for changing demands.

Dormitories:
3 - Good
3 - Good
Only saw one dorm and it was a 2-room layout - one room for beds/closets, and a living room-type thing. A little tight and there were 3 beds in the room but I only saw 2 desks (maybe one was hiding?)

Security/Safety:
3 - Good
3 - Good
Not as good as other colleges, but acceptable - need Colby Card to get in to any dorms but after a certain hour, Colby Card can only get you into your specific dorm. (No doormen or anything like that)

Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Most students were smiling and happy, campus is its own community and you almost forget how it's literally in the middle of nowhere

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good
3 - Good
Colby is kind of set apart from Waterville - you have to drive down a REALLY long side street before you see the Colby Campus.

City/Town/Community:
2 - Fair
2 - Fair
I think one of the highlights of Waterville is how there's a CVS and grocery store within walking distance of Colby (but it's a loooong walk)

Campus Visit Notes for Colby College

Visit Description:

The food at Colby is amazing! Lots of variety, daily offerings for Vegans. Even offer soy milk, which I found pretty cool. It's more than the typical sandwich or pizza options. They offer soups, salads, wraps... and plenty of healthy options. Pretty high-end for a college. They even used real China plates as opposed to plastic (so don't drop them!). Colby also takes the initiative to go green. The day I went, none of the dining halls were using trays (which wasn't nearly as annoying as you'd think it'd be) to try to save some water. Also big on recycling and stuff like that (tour guide pointed out all the things they're trying to do, but I forget a couple)
