Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Was very general, but gave plenty of information. Did not go into any details though as some universities break things down quickly for parents. Very experienced person giving talk.

Campus Tour: Yes - Very tiring, not the easiest campus to park and walk around. Guide was thorough.

Classroom Visit: Yes - Classrooms vary from older to modern, too many of the older classrooms though.

Appearance of Campus:
2 - Fair
2 - Fair
University looks run down. A building that looks ready to tear down, right next to something ultra-modern. An unusual mix I felt. More money needs to be spent on campus, less on sports.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
2 - Fair
2 - Fair
A few buildings should just be torn down at this point, some are significantly run down and not maintained.

No dormitory tours were given, was eager to see but was not offered anywhere in the visit.

A mixed visit. I expected more to be honest, newer buildings, less talk about sports.

Campus Visit Notes for Cornell University

Visit Description:

We honestly expected more from an expensive Ivy league university. I think what I got from everyone is they want to appear not as too studious so what we got was how they are increasing sports all around. I also thought the university was too much of an odd mix of super new buildings next to a building that may well need to be razed for more modern facilities.

Perhaps what would work is less money and time on sports, you only need to have them not try to be division 1 leaders. Plus more spent on the buildings and roads.

I would have liked a broader introduction to the university. I felt they have too many students try to visit so they short change visitors a bit in comparison to other universities.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Easy drive from other side of one of the Finger Lakes.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Moosewood in Ithaca.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Just aim for the parking garages in Ithaca, street parking not the best.
