Duke University Visit Report by IrunN2doorz
Campus Tour: No - My guide was nice and funny. She answered all questions that I or anyone else had. The campus was GORGEOUS! And there are so many neat things about Duke that no other college has.
Campus Visit Notes for Duke University
It was great. I feel that the people at Duke helped me to become very informed about the campus and the people that walk it everyday. I have to admit I wish that they had a few more signs of where to go for the "Blue Devil Days" events on campus for the oblivious people (me). Other that that my visit was fabulous.
I read a lot about race relations there before I went: some said it's "pretty self-segregated" and some said "everyone hangs out with everyone". It's both.
I saw black people with black people, black people with white people, white people with Asians, Asians with Hispanics...etc. Everyone of every color was chatting with everyone else of every color, the same or different. I sensed no racial tension AND I was lucky enough to come on a day where they had their celebration of international cultures. EVERYONE was there mixing and mingling.
Also, no one acted snobby toward me or any other visitors. I could tell that some people came from families with money (this one girl had the cutest Juicy Couture bag - I wanted it so bad!) and they were rocking their designer wear. Yet, overall everyone dressed for the weather in shorts and t-shirts and tank tops.
I got the vibe of friendship and community among the people as they went to class or stopped to see what culture was performing. It was so exciting. I can't wait to become a Blue Devil. Go class of 2012!
