Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - It went rather smoothly, very casual, very easy going. Questions were generally pretty straight forward with a few weird, but fun ones. IE: which dictators would you invite over to have dinner?

Information Session: Yes - Again, professors and staff made me feel very welcome. They even had a few student groups, like the Duke Improv, do some entertaining pieces for us.

Campus Tour: No - I walked all over the place by myself, which was quite thrilling, the weather in April is wonderful, and everything on campus is well within walking distances. Buildings are spread out, very spacious.

Classroom Visit: Yes - I only attending a large lecture seminar, which I found to be a bit trite, but most classes here have fewer than 20 kids. Professors are very engaging though, regardless of whatever they are teaching

Must be that southern hospitality thing, or maybe because the campus is so darn pretty.

Well, since they are essentially trying to attract potential students, this is kind of a given, but nevertheless, I never felt abandoned.

Its Duke, c'mon.

Rich school, it can afford to keep up appearances, especially with keeping the chapel lit at all times during the night.

Dormitories:

Not as good as I was hoping, but that could because I stayed in a selective housing dorm.

Very pretty, very spacious, lots to do, who can ask for more? There's even a forest just north of campus!

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:

Durham is an old tobacco town, so many of its buildings are under renovation and look ghetto as a consequence. The town itself looks a bit bleak, but there's so much on campus you won't be

City/Town/Community:

Very friendly atmosphere of smart intellectuals. Even at 3am in the morning where normal people are asleep, you can still find groups of students studying or doing a project.

Campus Visit Notes for Duke University

Visit Description:

I visited Duke in late April and was thoroughly impressed with all it had to offer. The campus itself is spacious and beautiful, the surrounding areas, while leaving a lot to be desired, is still intersting. My hosts were very generous, the classes I attended were amusing, and the people were just great. There was one thing I didn't consider but found to be a slight nuance when I arrived on campus. As one who is deathly allergic to pollen, the spring time weather wreaks havoc with my allergies. So, bring some vitamins and medicine with you if you visit during the spring.
