Harvey Mudd College Visit Report by olsennj
Information Session: Yes - There was an information session which was separate from the tour and it was worth attending as it provided additional information not obvious in the tour.
Campus Tour: Yes - We took a tour over spring break, so the campus was quiet. We had a very animated tour guide who loved her school. We saw classrooms, met a professor in the hallway and also saw the inside of a dorm
Campus Visit Notes for Harvey Mudd College
The person leading the information session made a big point about emphasizing the advantage of having predominantly undergraduates on campus. Without graduate students/postdocs, she said, students were more likely to get hands-on research experience and know their professors. As a person who attending a large research university as an undergraduate and has since been a faculty member at 2 such universities, I know that this is not true and that there are also very good opportunities for undergraduates at large schools. So be careful not to swallow everything presented at these sessions!
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Not much lodging in the vicinity; we stayed near the Ontario airport due to our travel plans; it is about a 20 minute drive.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Lunch places in the Claremont village are very good.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
You will need to rent a car; there does not appear to be any public transportation. Also, a GPS is very useful.
