Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - I did an interview in the afternoon. I had done an interview with Claremont McKenna that morning. Very Informal.

Information Session: Yes - They took us outside after serving us water. Same stuff I'd been hearing. ED and the like.

Campus Tour: Yes - Amazing! The tour guide was defintiely an uber-haxor1337man. He got a bit technical with the science stuff, but quirky jokes made it enjoyable

Ehh, they fail in comparison to CMC, with their maid service. Big rooms however, room they showed us was habitually dirty.

It's 30 miles from LA, a nice suburb. I didn't feel threatened at all.

We are HMC. We do lots of fantastic work in science and math, yet still party all the time and have lots of fun! Skateboarders and Unicylcers welcome.

Doesn't really seem to have much going on outside of Claremont Consortium. But there are 5 different campuses, each with a unique personality, so you won't be bored.

Campus Visit Notes for Harvey Mudd College

Visit Description:

HMC makes a big deal about their clinic, which is a group research project that take the place of a mandatory senior thesis. The work you do there will essentially get you a job out of college if you want one. Otherwise a large proportion of Mudders go onto grad school. As a prosective math major, they said that 50% of math majors at HMC go onto free rides at grad school. The other 50% go onto "great jobs". Including math/compsci and math/bio, 25% of the people at HMC are math majors, a number higher than any college I looked at. The college is heavily disproportionate to males, esp white or asain males. They actively state they want more URMs and women. The student don't claim it to be too much of a problem, as there is an all womens college literally next door. The entire campus can be walked in 5 minutes. Most of the buildings are dorms.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Ate Pizza at a Papa Johns. $5 for a large one topping.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Parking wasn't a problem once we realized that we could park anywhere because it was the summer.
