Campus Visit Notes for Harvey Mudd College
Wow! Harvey Mudd has left me with an excellent impression. Everyone was very nice and super-happy. Only one kid I saw was not completely content, and that was just because it was too much work for him. The best part was the atmosphere, which was not at all competitive. Because grades are not curved, everyone was super helpful and supportive of each other. The staff seemed engaged and smart, but casual with the students. The small school feel made me feel welcome.
In addition to talking with students and staff, visiting classes, and touring campus, I also went to an improv comedy show that night (pout together by students from all five colleges). the humor was college-level, but it was very funny and the Mudd-er in it proved that even the engineers and mathematicians have a sense of humor.
For lunch, I ate on the Pitzer campus at "The Grove House." It was expensive, but the food was very good. For dinner, I ate with a Jewish students' group to celebrate Sukkot.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Get up very early to get there if you need to travel through downtown LA; we saw one unfortunate prospie who missed his interview b/c of LA traffic.
