Campus Visit Notes for Harvey Mudd College

Visit Description:

Okay, my cousin is at Harvey Mudd, and he loves it (he applied ED). I thought I would like it, I really did, but I hated it. It seemed TOO focused on academics and I didn't feel like there were many people who had other interests in addition to science/math/engineering. The buildings reminded me of my middle school (inside and outside), only my middle school didn't have "warts" on it.

Our tour guide was a freshman who seemed like she was really quiet usually. When talking about the dorms, she gave a stereotype of each one- things like "the party dorm", "the jock dorm", "the NERD dorm"... hello, every single dorm at Harvey Mudd is a nerd dorm, because they are all nerds. Sorry, it's true.

Harvey Mudd is perfect for some people, but after my visit, I learned that I am not one of those people. When I thought about it, I would never want to spend four years there (although obviously some people do).

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

If you visit Harvey Mudd, visit some of the other Claremont Colleges. I'd say the other campuses are a lot nicer than Harvey Mudd.
