Campus Visit Notes for Harvey Mudd College

Visit Description:

My D really liked Mudd. She enjoyed the down to earth tour guide, the biology professor who took time out of his day to meet with us and take us around to see some of the summer research projects which are going on and even enjoyed her interview. The idea of having small classes and being able to do research even as a freshman particularly appealed to her. The dorm we saw had mixed grades within the suite (I think 2 freshman shared a room and there were 3-4 junior or seniors who also shared the suite).

I thought the dirty couches all over the dorm buildings were very strange and a bit of a turn off. Apparently its a campus tradition to get used couches off of Craig's list for $1 or so. Didn't bother D at all.

The core Mudd requirements are not something to enter into lightly so she's still thinking about whether this would be the place for her.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed at the Hilton near the Ontario airport on a priceline reservation. It took about 25 minutes to drive to Mudd from the hotel.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Ate dinner at The Press in Claremont which was very nice.
