University of California-Santa Barbara Visit Report by Vibes4me
Information Session: Yes - So I'll say it was pretty standard, only since we've now attend 7 of them. They gave us the Celebrity show, then got into some stats and finished with focusing on what it takes to get in. T
Campus Tour: Yes - Our Tour Guide was excellent. She was an Environmental Science Major. My daughter connected immediately with her and pay attention to all the details. Tour was fast paced and a glossary.
Overnight Visit: Yes - Got in the night before and basically looked around town and campus with all those crazy bicyclists and skateboards on campus. LOL, once you tour it you'll know what I mean.
Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Santa Barbara
We drove there from another part of California. We had to visits in two days. UCSB and Cal Poly. Needless to say the campus at UCSB was beautiful, and the students we came into contact were super friendly. Sure these kids make a few bucks giving the guided tour, but our guide really loved UCSB. First Generation student, and took extra time to explain how to adjust to college life. We were in a group of about 25 total, and you could hear no matter where you were standing. Her excitement made the tour what it was. After the tour she stuck around for 30 minutes of her own time and spoke with my daughter specifically about Environment Science and interests. As an Ambassador for UCSB she hit it out of the Park! Now, the school is very LARGE as a campus and walking around at least as a parent was tiring in the heat. For students they'll only go where they need. Bikes are EVERYWHERE! I cannot emphasis that enough that they will mow you down if you are in the "Bike Lane" walking. Say with that pesky "Skateboard Lane" while walking. It truly felt like you were on the Autobahn then when you stepped tot he side the vibe slowed down.
Student Union was really nice, and I loved seeing all the kids with their Macs/PC's sitting outside working together. Food both on campus and off was really good.
We didn't take a tour of the Gym.
We explored the Library (first Class), Science Buildings, Music Hall, Dorms, Tennis courts/sports complex and of course Dining commons.
Great school UCSB.
